This designated webpage will host the latest information, status and communication related to this High Desert Reorganization Project. Since 2018, San Bernardino Superior Court (SBSC) has been seeking solutions to address the overcrowding, ever-growing caseloads, and service challenges presented at the Victorville Courthouse. After securing space at the Barstow Courthouse from the County of San Bernardino in February 2020, future plans to expand the Barstow Courthouse into a full-service family law division began, along with a reorganization of courtroom calendars and additional services to be offered at the Barstow and Victorville Courthouses.

The High Desert Reorganization Project addresses current and future space needs to accommodate the growing population, changes in caseload, and set the foundation for the community of the High Desert to receive access to justice.

Child support and civil matters completed the move to the Barstow Courthouse in November 2020. Construction on the Barstow Courthouse began in December 2020 and is estimated to be completed by July 2021. Family Law will move from Victorville to the Barstow Courthouse with a grand reopening ceremony slated for July 12, 2021.

Project Timeline

The expansion will bring 3.5 family law courtrooms, Self-Help Resource Center, Family Court Services, and a children’s waiting room to the Barstow Courthouse. Construction on the Victorville Courthouse, phase III, will start in Summer 2021 and will achieve an expanded jury room, additional courtrooms to accommodate the increasing criminal caseloads and overall improved access to courthouse parking, hallway space, and seating for the residents of the High Desert. These expansions also increase SBSC’s ability to comply with social distancing protocols, amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

Beginning Monday, July 5, the Victor Valley Transit Authority (VVTA) will add a 6:45 a.m. bus route departing from the Victorville Transportation Hub and will arrive at 7:45 a.m. at the Barstow Transfer Hub (City Hall). This drop off location is directly across the street from the Barstow Courthouse. This additional bus route allows litigants to attend their 8:30 a.m. hearing and other essential court services or appointments.
